Excursions to observe polar bears are extremely popular in Norway. Svalbard, located in northern Norway, is known as the land of polar bears and has almost 500 of these animals living on the island and is the main destination of many tourist trips. Polar bears are dangerous animals though, because they can move very quickly and are unpredictable. Trying to chase or interact with these animals is strictly prohibited.
Tourists who want to camp in the area must adhere to specific security measures and report their presence in Svalbard to the Local Governor.

Norway has various gastronomic traditions that include dishes from seal and whale meat. Both types of meat can be found in restaurants or bought in stores or directly from fishermen. Usually these products are more common in Svalbard than in the mainland, where they are usually consumed mostly on special occasions.
