Be a Responsible Tourist - Report Animal Abuse

Report Animal Abuse

Do you have relevant information about captivity centers or animals being used for picture-taking and shows? Have you seen animals in poor conditions or suffering abuse during your vacation? Have you witnessed bad practices on a safari or tour?

Let us know about any issues concerning animal welfare you have witnessed on your travels around the country or abroad.

It is vital that you provide as much detail as possible, ideally including the following:

1. Take pictures (photos or video)

2. Gather as much information as possible:

  • What kind of animals are involved and how many?
  • What physical condition are they in?
  • What are the environmental conditions (size of housing, substrate, environmental enrichment, etc.)?
  • Do the animals display abnormal behavior (e.g., repeatedly walking from side to side, swaying, twisting the neck or self-mutilation)?
  • Is there direct contact between people and the animals?
  • What companies or people are responsible?
  • Where is the event or the venue advertised (hotels, tourist offices, travel agencies, etc.)?
  • Is there any documentation (brochures, flyers, etc.) available about the attraction?

3. Write a report of what you have witnessed.

Send us this information by email to turismo@faada.org including your name and contact details or fill in this form.

In addition to contacting FAADA, express your concerns to your tour guide and/or representative, the tour operator, the hotel and even the local tourist office. This will ensure that animal welfare becomes an important issue on their agenda.

At FAADA, we will review the information and follow up on the issue. For activities which take place in Spain, we can file a legal complaint. When the abuse has been witnessed abroad, we will contact the local animal protection organizations and the tour operators involved. In any event, we will always inform our members and followers – all of whom are potential travelers – via our communication channels.
