Eco-tourism and whale watching industries are growing rapidly in Iceland. In 2002, more than 62,000 people traveled to Iceland for this reason. However, the hunting of some species of whales continues in the country as well. Many people already believe that the observation of these animals can represent an economical alternative to whaling.
